Dog Creek Airfield
Geoff asked me to post the coordinates for Dog Creek Airstrip up near 100 Mile House. It's an old military airfield now on private property. Apparently the owner is open to the occasional landing.
There is a group out of ZBB that camp up there on occasion. 6000ft runways.
Google Earth it at 51'37.37N 122'15.19W

Airspace changes
Hang on boys and girls. Our old pal Nav Canada is putting the squeeze on our collective proverbial nut-sack.
Check out the link. This is the draft version of the next VTA. Pretty soon you'll need a transponder code and a clearance for a bowel movement.

Some of you may have heard that Gerry had a landing incident while flying his Jabiru on Sunday the 16th.
The good news is that Gerry is O.K apart from some damage to his hand. The Jabiru was not so fortunate.
We all wish Gerry a speedy recovery.

beware Rivers Edge avionics
If you guys ever need your avionics serviced stay away from these guys. I dropped off my transponder in late July to these yahoo's. Tom Jackson the owner said he would contact me in a couple of days with a diagnosis. Weeks passed and Tom said they were very busy and could not get to it right away, fine, call me when you find out. I phoned him at least a dozen times trying to find out what was going on. Finally two weeks ago he tells me transponder is fine, but encoder is shot, could not find a time to go pick it up because of me working in Yakima now. So today I get a hold of him, ask him if I can pick it up tomorrow, he says fine. I get an email tonight saying the Transponder is beyond reasonable repair, and a quote for a new transponder and encoder. This guy is an A**HOLE cant wait till I see him tomorrow, they will remember me for a long time.

zodiac from King george to Villeneuve AB
Today I waited with anticipation for Sebastien and my airplane and at 14:05 Seb landed at CZVL with good weather actually it was the best weather of the whole trip , the last call I got at 10.30 BC time him leaving from Golden BC (calling from a pay phone because the battery in his cell phone had long died)Ron I will call You when I land in Olds Didsbury at about one o'clock . but no time left on the calling card Sebastien decided to buy gas instead and continue the flight to Villeneuve Airport .
Now comments from the Pilot in the plane :
The trip took Me from King George to Salmon Arm initially but had to divert to Quilchena in a hurry... Weather wasn't the greatest and stress started to settle in, unfamiliar terrain, plane, and a few electrical snags from the previous oil change... had to take a wizz bad, really bad. After one missed approach and a refill for NSR and a lighter bladder, finally i arrived in Salmon Arm. FSS warn me of bad weather ahead and sure enough, Rogers Pass felt like night time with pouring rain. Turning around for Revelstoke was the option, so for 3 hours i waited. Two other eastbound Cessna's soon joined the pilot lounge. Made 2 phone calls, Rogers Pass Esso gas station and the Lodge for weather info, and soon on my way to Golden. Overnight carpet sleeping, fogged in untill 10H00 BC time, Golden was left behind. Few pics of Lake Louise and Banff and slow descent to the foot-hills of Alberta. Running behind schedule, i decide to refuel instead of spending the rest of my money on a phone card and arrived safely in Villeneuve. Awesome trip, thanks to Ron and Debby, Jerome and Ian, and of course Jason for picking me up early in CYXX.
Lessons learned; battery charger for the phone next time, pull on that knob for the heat to come on, and definitely will do it again!! Sebastien.
below some pix of Sebastien in Edmonton, Villeneuve and the big mall.
Here we go again...
Another report today from Vancouver Tower......
An aircraft from King George flew through YVR tower airspace without a clearance yet again today. The aircraft was radar tracked to somewhere over near Indian Arm. This time right through the approach to the 26's at 2000ft.
Nice job. I want to thank those involved in advance for getting us all banned from flying through. It hasn't happened yet but I'm excited about the possibility.

what will it take to get pilots to fly in to DairyAir?
THIS farmer WILL allow flight operations to take place on the farm.
There has got be some justification for the 200 hours per year that I spend on the tractors cutting the grass.

New Sheltered Cove airstrip
We have a new airstrip in the works , location is sheltered cove just north of Hatzic Lake it will take an other 3 weeks or so for the hay to come of the field, then some preparation the runway 15 is 1000ft+ long one way in and out the prevailing winds are from the water in the South .
here is a link to a google earth page that will show the exact location and related info .. look at the page...
there is a radio controlled airfield in the approach path about 2000 ft You will be at +- 300ft ,I have talked to them already so the are aware and know they have to give way to ( real) aircraft but it would be possible that if You see cars parked at the RC field to make a circle at 500ft before turning final.
in case the link does not work for You are the coordinates : 49 10' 47 N /122 15' 17 W

May long weekend flying
The coyote C-FOKR is now back on wheels after the owner got turned down for a hanger at his lake front property in Saskatchewan. Will be flying it east this weekend either Sat. or Sunday and making the first stop Quichena for lunch. If anyone wants to come along let me know, and if your real keen for a longer xcountry I will probably overnight in either Revelstoke or Golden. Weather finally looks good for the weekend.
Hot-dog fly in.
With the sunny weather predicted for this week-end.
Is there any interest in a hot-dog fly in to DairyAir?
If enough pilots signed up to make it interesting, I would spring for the dogs and pop.
If a lot signed up, I would have to ask Ron's better half Debbie for help running the BBQ.
Or we could get a larger BBQ going and get all the ground support teams involved in the fun.
Overnight camping is fine and DairyAir is within about three minutes driving time from the freeway.
Let me know Eh!

deer meat
I know this has nothing to do with flying, but since its snowin and we're grounded...
DEER MEAT
A man kills a deer and takes it home to cook for dinner. Both he and his wife decide that they won't tell the kids what kind ofmeat it is, but will give them a clue and let them guess. The kids were eager to know what the meat was on their plates, so they begged their dad for the clue. Well, he said, 'It's what mommy calls me sometimes.
The little girl screams to her brother, "Don't eat it , it's an asshole!!!"

Dairy Air Rosedale ( Jacques's field)
Tuesday Jan 22.
I made My first landing at Jacques's field (Dairy Air) not your average field 750ft. from beginning to the trees on the end the field slopes up 4% up to the intersection of the two runway,s and then goes up to 9 % so a natural brake (the average ultralight will not make it to the intersection without adding power after landing and roll out
I first had a look at the spot with two feet on the ground it gives you a much better idea what your dealing with, and Jacques would like any one planning to land at his field to check it out first from the ground!!!!.
At take off You will get a nice kick in the pants from the 9% down slope this is a one way in and out field major transmission lines on the east side , I landed 10 with very light north wind cross wind was no issue ,the runway is nice and smooth except for frost heaves ,some small rock is mixed up in the grass , the runway will be nicer when 4" of grass is growing on it.
It was a nice experience I'll do it again soon Thanks Jacques .(pictures made by J.C. Menard also the slide show on the bottom of the blog) . Ron

Pemberton to Gun Lake
A couple of pix taken by Shawn on a flight from Pemberton to Gun Lake. Nice flight over Hurley Pass but not much at Gun Lake except a dusty airstrip and lots of ATV traffic.
first get together of the year
Now that the web site is up and running, I propose that we set a date and location (airflow?) for a get to know each other get together. Maybe in the next couple of months, that way we all can put faces to our names here and perhaps get the ball rolling for our first flyout? Post your comments and ideas please

Ps: cant wait for a nice summer morning like this to come......
