Yellowknife Update

Hello friendly aviators,

We are looking to depart for Yellowknife on Saturday August 24th, 2013. We expect to be home on Sunday September 8th. If the weather is better we could be home sooner, but this leaves us plenty of time so as not to rush and minimize risk-taking on behalf of the weather.

Some have expressed interest in the trip, but don't like the idea of mosquitoes and camping. Others want to get more time out of a tank, as we will have to stop every two hours max for fuel based on our 12 gallon tank. I will try to accomodate these points as I work out the finer details and purchase maps over the Christmas break.

I'll post up some more info as I work it out, but if you are at all interested, please mark down the dates! :)

Kinge George group Xmas lunch

Great turnout at the Xmas lunch today at the Big Ridge. It was good to see most of the group together and really good to have Fred and Beverly Glasbergen there. Fred is responsible for the Ultralight movement in Western Canada and I think we owe him a lot for that. Can't wait for spring, I think we have a great flying season ahead.

Xmas Lunch

It's that time again, where does the time go? I am thinking of booking table space for the yearly King George group Christmas lunch. The past two years were a great success. It's good to see flying friends that we haven't met for a while.
I was planning December 16 noon at  the Big Ridge pub similar to last year. It would help to have some feedback on attendance numbers. If you would like to come, please let me know. I will book the tables.

Flying to the Northwest Territories - Next summer

Mel and I are thinking of taking a couple weeks next summer to fly to Yellowknife, NWT.

I have done a preliminary outline of the trip, and it looks like we can make it on our 12 gallon tank, but it will be a lot of stops for gas.

I'd like to have atleast one other aircraft accompany us if possible, but we will make a go of it alone if we have to. All are welcome to join of course! We'd enjoy the company.

We are thinking of camping out under the wing mostly, with maybe a hotel stay once in Yellowknife.

I think it would be a great way to see some more of Canada.

I don't mind doing the legwork, figuring out what services are available at what stops along the way so we can be sure we can get gas etc. If you are interested, please let me know! I will probably put in for the time off around Christmas. I'm thinking late July and early August when the weather is best. We may have a couple bad wx days too, but we should have plenty of time.

108 mile House Fly-out

There are a few of us planning to fly to 108 mile for the "Airport Days" next weekend if the weather co-operates. All are welcome. Should be a good trip, hope to see you there.

Tomo's leaving us!

Our friend and flying instructor Tomo is moving on to  bigger and better things. His last working days at King George are this weekend. There is a going away bash for him starting around five or six on Saturday evening which will give us a chance to thank Tomo for his  great work and patience teaching us misfits how to fly. Everyone is welcome, hope to see you on the deck at King George.

Chilliwack Flight Fest 2012.  BBQ at Garys' Hanger at Chilliwack . Looks like a used airplane lot. Had a good  turnout for the air show.  Gary went all out on the BBQ, great BBq Gary and thank you again

A check ride ought to be like a skirt. Short enough to be interesting, but long enough to cover everything. Speed is life. Altitude is life insurance. It only takes two things to fly: Airspeed, and money. The three most dangerous things in aviation: 1. A Doctor, Lawyer or Dentist in a Cessna or a Beechcraft 2. Two captains in a DC-9. Aircraft Identification: If it's ugly, it's British. If it's weird, it's French. If it's ugly and weird, it's Russian. Without ammunition, the USAF would be just another very expensive flying club. The similarity between air traffic controllers and pilots? If a pilot screws up, the pilot dies. If ATC screws up, the pilot dies. The difference between flight attendants and jet engines: The engines usually quit whining when they get to the gate. New FAA motto: 'We're not happy, till you're not happy.' If Air Traffic Control screws up, it's called a "System Malfunction," If a pilot screws up it's called a "violation." If something hasn't broken on your helicopter--it's about to. I give that landing a 9 ................. on the Richter scale. Basic Flying Rules: 1. Try to stay in the middle of the air. 2. Do not go near the edges of it. 3. The edges of the air can be recognized by the appearance of ground, buildings, sea, trees and interstellar space. It is much more difficult to fly in the edges. Unknown landing signal officer (LSO) to carrier pilot after his sixth unsuccessful landing attempt: "You've got to land here son . . . this is where the food is."

Cortes Island.

Great flying this Sunday. Cortes Island for a picnic on the beach. Hot as hell but the air was smooth. ideal flying weather. The Hansons on Cortes were welcoming as always. We will be back.

The trip back from 108 mile down the fraser canyon. Looks worse than it was. Pic #2 is comming into Hope. July 22 2012
