Chuck is too modest. Dean's crew had already decided against the jump because of not enough drop, it was Chuck's idea to construct a ramp (you can see from the boat he's handy with aluminum). The ramp gave Dean the drop he needed to get the speed up on the suit to be able to fly away from the rock face.
