Nootka Island Cat
Here is a photo of a cougar killed on Nootka Island, British Columbia.
The guy who shot it is 6 foot tall and weighs about 220 lbs. He was standing next to Pat's B & B. He saw it pass him upwind and then down wind. When the cat passed him again he knew that it was hunting him, so - boom.
After viewing this, do you still feel safe in the woods?
Anyone up for an overnighter to Nootka?

Recently my girlfriend and I were fishing in the creek that comes out of Crawfish lake on Nootka Island. I usually land my Beaver at the south end of Crawfish lake and fish the creek down from there. There has been recent logging in the area( of course no riparian zone and logging right into this fantastic cutthroat creek) so we waded down the creek through many deadfalls and it was tough going. Obviously, being smart, we decided to walk back along the creek sometimes 100 metres or more in the bush. That is, of course, until we stumbled into a grove of hollowed out giant cedars. It smelled pungent, intensely pungent and fresh. About the same time we both realized we were standing smack dab in the middle of a large male Cougar den. The hair on my neck and my heart rate both raised at the same time.....
Perhaps this cougar is the one we just missed...

Poor thing, it was probably starving and was forced to venture into contact with humans. Soon enough there won't be any more cougars... However, I would pull the trigger too if that was me!
dosn't look like a hungry cat to me that thing is huge!!!
As usual another animal loses its right to live.
I would agree - when faced with a situation of life-or-death, one must ask themselves what to do. Pulling the trigger probably was the best thing to do, but who really knows if the cat would have pounced. It looks like it has been well fed.
However, we humans on VI must be accountable for our actions as well. If animals had the capacity to pull triggers, we all would be dead. We're invading there habitat with our urban sprawl developments, and lack of environmental stewardship.
It's most definitely sad to see another amazing creature lose it's life due to the contact of human, but then again, if I was the one holding the gun, the circumstance probably would be the same.
That picture has been floating around for years and it's always at a new place every time it's posted.. Pat doesn't have a Garage. lol
This cougar is the 5th largest one shot in the US in Washington State by a professional hunter. It was hunting livestock around his place. It was not from BC.
I don't think so. I was on my way home from a pillow guy rally and I saw it myself.
